Obituary

Ervin Dean Springer, 91, of Mount Vernon, IL, passed away peacefully on March 3, 2024. Born on April 5, 1932, to Rev and Bertha (Brown) Springer, Ervin lived a life filled with love, laughter, and adventure.

A man of many talents, Ervin was a gifted artist from a young age. His passion for art was undeniable, and he had a remarkable ability to capture the essence of a person in his portraits. Despite his dreams of attending art school, Ervin's path took a different turn when he proudly served his country during the Korean War, eventually becoming a Signal Corps Instructor in the Army.

After his honorable discharge, Ervin embarked on a successful career journey. From managing Singer Sewing Machines Stores-where he met his late wife Sarah-to representing various distilleries, including Shinley, Calvert, and American, Ervin's work ethic and creativity shone through in everything he did. His entrepreneurial spirit led him to establish his own business, National Sanicare, before retiring.

Beyond his professional endeavors, Ervin found joy in simple pleasures. He had a deep love for westerns, particularly Gunsmoke, and enjoyed watching the Inspiration channel with his life partner, Geneva. In his younger years, he frequented the gym, forging friendships with the likes of Dick the Bruiser.

As a father, Ervin was unparalleled. He embraced all the quintessential dad duties, from teaching his son Ervin II how to ride a bike to imparting wisdom on sports, shaving, driving, and swimming. Together, they bonded over building and flying model planes, enduring crashes and rebuilds with laughter and perseverance. Golf outings became a treasured pastime as Ervin II grew older, solidifying their bond even further.

Ervin is survived by his son, Ervin II (Brenda) Springer, and numerous nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his beloved wife, Sarah "Straw" Springer; his parents, Rev and Bertha Springer; his cherished life partner, Geneva Williams; three sisters; and one brother.
