Mary Rose Hunt, McCordsville, passed away on Wednesday morning, August 7, 2024, at her home. She was 96 years old.
Mary Rose was born in Fortville, IN on January 25, 1928, to Oscar Earl and Carrie Marie (Ginder) Huston. She graduated from Fortville High School in 1946. In 1947 she married Curtis W. Hunt, who preceded her in death in 1996 after 49 ½ years of marriage. She is survived by her daughter Vicky Vendel, Fortville, sons; Timothy Hunt, Fortville, Steven (Julia) Hunt, Missoula, MT, Jeffery (Jana Heiny) Hunt, Fortville, and Mark Hunt of Ingalls. She was blessed with 7 grandchildren: Jeffrey Davis, Gregory (Jamie) Davis, Brandy (Jacob) Summers, Khyla (Chris) Weir, Jason (Rachel) Hunt, Allison (Luke) Santiago and Ryan Hunt, as well as 6 great-grandchildren and many beloved nieces and nephews. She was a wonderful, loving Mom, Grandma, and Gigi who spoiled her grandbabies as much and as often as she could.
In addition to her husband, Mary Rose was preceded in death by her parents and 3 brothers Memphis (Helen), William and Robert (Bea) Huston.
When her youngest child started school, Mary Rose started working at various places including the Fortville Ice Cream Store and Bakers Shoe Store. In 1976 she began her career at J.C. Penney, where she retired after 15 years of service. She was a loyal “Penneys shopper” the rest of her life.
Mary Rose was a member of the Fortville United Methodist Church, where she fulfilled a dream of singing in the choir. It was one of her greatest joys later in life. She was also a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post #6904 Ladies Auxiliary.
Graveside services will be held on Friday, August 16, 2024, at 3pm at Gravel Lawn Cemetery with Pastor Kevin Smigielski officiating. Following the service, her family will gather at her home to honor her with a celebration of the many years they were blessed to be with her and share her life.
