Obituary

Lowell E. Thomas, 83, of McCordsville, Indiana, passed away on March 25, 2023, in Indianapolis. He was born February 28, 1940, in McCordsville to Dwight E. and Eva Nell (Smith) Thomas. He graduated from the old McCordsville High School in 1958 and then served in the U.S. Army.

Lowell was the owner/operator of Kingen Gun Club. Throughout his life he worked as a self-employed carpenter, retired as the Hancock County Building Inspector, the project manager for the Skillman Corporation and retired as a Hancock County Reserve Sheriff’s Deputy where he also served at the Hancock County Sherriff’s Chaplain. He was a member of the McCordsville United Methodist Church  where he was a Sunday School Teacher and a Lay Speaker. He served as security at Mt. Vernon High School. Lowell had an extreme love for basketball and enjoyed being the Assistant Boys’ Basketball Coach at Mt. Vernon High School.

Lowell is survived by sons Kevin Thomas of Florida and Kerry (Darlene) Thomas of Franklin, VA; grandchildren Shawn (Jennifer) Thomas, and Dylan (fiancé Rose) Thomas; great-grandchildren Johnathan Kirk and Jaxon Thomas; sister Donna (Don) Foster of McCordsville; and special friends Jan Smith, Mike Archer, and Sarah Emmons. He was preceded in death by his wife Susie and parents.

A memorial service to celebrate Lowell’s life will be held on Friday, March 31, 2023, at 1:00 pm at McCordsville United Methodist Church, 6247 W. Broadway Street, McCordsville, IN 46055. Visitation will take place at the church from 10:00 am until the time of the service. Burial of his cremated remains next to his wife Susie will take place at Gravel Lawn Cemetery at the convenience of the family.  In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to McCordsville United Methodist Church Stained Glass Fund P.O. Box 188 McCordsville, IN 46055. Online condolences may be shared at www.sealsfuneralhome.com.
