Arthur “Tom” Cannaday, 91, of Pendleton, passed away Thursday, April 8, 2021 at IU Health Saxony in Fishers. He was born November 24, 1929 in Fortville to Robert R. and Iris A. (Barnard) Cannaday. Tom was a 4-H leader, a Pendleton Booster who farmed for fun. He worked all the time but relaxed by fishing, bird watching and raising birds. Tom was a mentor and shared his work ethic and values with his children and friends.
Tom graduated from the old Fortville High School in 1947 and was also a veteran of the U.S. Army. He retired in 1995 from Guide Lamp Division of General Motors as a tool and die maker. He worked there for over 43 years. He was a member of United Auto Workers Local #663.
Tom is survived by wife Myrna (Whelchel) whom he married October 25, 1957; children: Kevin (Cheryl) Cannaday, Jon Cannaday, Chris (Mike) Bryant; grandchildren: Jason (Holly) Cannaday, Brandon (Amanda) Cannaday, Iris Cannaday, Danielle (Ken) Wines, Allison (Kyle) Stechschulte, Kelsey Gibson, Alexis Gibson and Adam (Casey) Siefker; 7 great-grandchildren; siblings: Larry Cannaday, Joyce Clark and Marilyn (Harold) Schneider as well as numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. He was preceded in death by his parents, brother Dale Cannaday, sisters Barbara Rafert and June Wood.
Friends may call on Wednesday, April 14, 2021 from 5 to 8 pm at Seals Funeral Home & Cremation Services, Fortville. A funeral to celebrate Tom’s life will be held on Thursday, April 15, 2021 at 11:00 am at the funeral home with visitation from 10:00 am. Burial will follow at Gravel Lawn Cemetery, Fortville.
