Thomas J. “Tommy” Cairns, 62, of Fortville, passed away Thursday, August 26, 2021, at his home. He was born July 4, 1959, in Wabash, IN to Harry W. and Estelle A. (Hurley) Cairns. Tommy was a 1978 graduate of Mt. Vernon High School and worked for Kim Hiday Construction for many years. He had also been a member of the Glaziers Union Local No. 1165. Tommy was a member of the Fortville American Legion Post #391 Sons of the American Legion and the VFW Post #6904 Men’s Auxiliary where he served as Sergeant of Arms. He enjoyed whittling and spending time with his friends.
Tommy is survived by his son Michael (Amanda) Cairns of Clarksville, TN; grandchildren: Christopher, Jonny and Mia; brother Patrick (Kathy) Cairns of Fishers, sisters Rosemary Ritchie and Kathryn Johnson both of Fortville as well as several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, brother Harry Michael Cairns and stepson Keith Stevenson.
Friends may call on Sunday, August 29, 2021, from 2 to 6 pm at Seals Funeral Home, Fortville. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Monday, August 30, 2021, at 11:00 am at St. Thomas the Apostle Catholic Church, Fortville. Burial will immediately follow at Gravel Lawn Cemetery, Fortville. Memorial contributions may be made to the Fortville American Legion Post #391 207 S.
